Christmas Wine

As the evenings darken I thought it would be a good idea to put together a selection of Christmas ideas for the wine lovers in the family. Pink Champagne and Rosé wines like the Bordeaux Clairets are going to be popular at Christmas this year for two reasons – firstly more and more people are realising how versatile they are with food and secondly as more people try them they realise that they taste divine.

If you are looking for something that extra special for Christmas Eve or Christmas Dinner try the Champagne Authentic Rosé Brut – it's a sumptuous strawberry pink with myriads of fine bubbles and fruity Kir Royale flavour with notes of wild cherry, rose, and quince.

Bordeaux has been making superb Rosés and Clairets for centuries and Nick has chosen 4 to suite everyone's palates: Château Lamothe Vincent Rosé, a fabulously fruity and dry wine, a distinctive deep pink and great with Turkey; Château Roques Mauriac Rosé, a mouth watering crisp, slightly dry, dark salmon pink wine which is excellent with seafood; Clairet de Château des Lisennes, a raspberry pink gold medal winner with marvellous aromas of redcurrants and raspberries that suits grilled meats and fish such as lamb, gammon, pork, tuna and mackerel; and my favourite – Domaine de Riacud Bordeaux Clairet, a dark plum pink, ever so slightly sweet wine with the taste of strawberries and redcurrants that make it very moreish!
